Financial Assistance Support Programs
If you're experiencing difficulty paying your electricity bill, there may be programs and support services available to help.
Synergy North works with customers to connect them with financial assistance programs, flexible payment arrangements, and community resources that can help manage electricity costs and avoid service disruption.
Support Programs Available to Customers:
Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP)
LEAP provides emergency financial assistance to eligible customers who are struggling to pay their electricity bill.
The program may help:
- Prevent electricity disconnection
- Restore service after disconnection
- Reduce outstanding account balances through a one-time grant
Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP)
OESP provides an ongoing monthly credit on electricity bills for eligible households.
The amount of assistance is based on:
- Household income
- Number of people living in the home
- Certain qualifying circumstances
Housing Security Fund (HSF)
The Housing Security Fund helps low-income households in the District of Thunder Bay maintain stable housing by providing financial assistance during temporary financial hardships. Support may be available for rent arrears, utility arrears, reconnection costs, or heating expenses such as oil, propane, or wood.
The program is designed to help households facing situations that could lead to eviction, utility disconnection, or challenges heating their homes.
Additional Support Options
Depending on your situation, support may also include:
- Flexible payment arrangements
- Assistance while funding applications are being reviewed
- Referrals to community support agencies and housing assistance programs
